The holiday season is here! This time of year is festive and stressful at the same time. Decadent foods are all around us and it is so easy to fall off track this time of year. The calendar begins to fill with upcoming events, work parties, cookie swaps, cocktails, hot cocoa and holiday treats. And Santa has to shop, shop, shop. Staying happy and healthy requires both mindfulness and balance!

If you are striving to stay consistent with you health intentions, the key is staying mindful. Remind yourself about your goals, and strive to stay as consistent as possible as 2017 wraps up. Show up at those festive parties with joyful spirits and a mindful vibe.

Mindful Eating Approach During the Holidays

As the holiday party invites begin to sprinkle into the calendar throughout the months of November, December and January, it can be very easy to fall off track with your health goals. Rather than skipping the event all together, out of fear of falling off the deep end, discover the art of mindfulness. Mindfulness is truly an art, it requires you to have full attention in the present moment and has the power to improve the quality of your life.

Mindfulness is the harmony between living life to the fullest experience and staying on track with your health intentions. Nourishing your body with mindful intentions enables you to enjoy the foods that you love with a balanced approach. If you have a health goal, the power comes from within to stay consistent. During the holidays, it’s easy to get off track but the key to staying mindful is to simply, embrace the experience with open arms. Enjoy the moment and understand that you will get right back on track. Having a little fun is key to a positive self-transformation. 

Practicing mindfulness while eating includes taking a bite and enjoying the bite to the fullest extent. Chew slowly and have gratitude for the food that you are consuming. Maybe its a slice of your mom’s famous pie on Christmas eve. My mom is famous for her toasted coconut cream pie and butterscotch pie, I look forward to them every Christmas. Enjoy the pie, know that your Aunt baked her special pie with love and joy. Another mindful moment includes enjoying your dinner with a present mindset. Focus on the nutrients that you are nourishing your body with at each bite. Each vegetable provides your body with a variety of vitamins and nutrients. You are completely capable of experiencing optimized joy during the holiday season, embrace it. 

 

Tips To Staying On Track At Your Next Holiday Party

No. 1 – Enjoy With Moderation

Enter that party with a step in your stride and have gratitude for being surrounded by a network of awesome people. As you head over the beautifully presented table of goodies, enjoy with moderation. Choose a few options that are calling your name, and eat them slowly. Taste every bite to the fullest extent. 

No. 2 – Make A Game Plan

Plan ahead, create an intention for yourself and accomplish what you set your mind to. Create a dish that aligns with your intentions to bring to the party. Create a cleaned up dessert, hors d’oeuvre or your specialty entree. 

No. 3 – Ask Yourself, “Am I Really Hungry?”

Before heading for a round two, ask yourself “Am I really hungry?” Checking in with yourself is key to staying on track and understanding where you are at and how you are feeling. Enjoy your meals and treats slowly and have gratitude for each and every bite. Remember, the holiday season only come once a year so, embrace.
